How will Nathan and Elizabeth move forward?

After years of struggle, sparks, and friendship, Nathan and Elizabeth are finally on their way towards a romantic relationship. These two have a natural chemistry together, despite the fact that they have never been “allowed” to truly explore it. Even when the love triangle was in full swing, Nathan and Elizabeth were never given any dinners or dates, resulting in a failure to prove to the audience why they did not belong together. The only “proof” we were given were monologues and dialogues, telling us without showing why the pair were not compatible. And it was during one of these monologues that Elizabeth uttered the fateful line, “I have been trying to find Jack in you. I have been trying to replace him with you.”

This line is so loaded yet so void of any evidence that it felt like shoehorned way to kill and bury the infamous love triangle even when it first aired. How is this line supposed to be explained away in Season 10 now that Nathan and Elizabeth are moving towards a future? And how will the exposure of it’s falsity be handled by the characters involved?
